DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING
In KARNATAKA STATE, BIT was the pioneer in establishing the COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING department, with affiliation to BANGALORE UNIVERSITY in the year 1981. The syllabus was framed by then H.O.D. Prof. M. Ramakrishna, ever since the department has adopted and evolved with the fast pace of technology.
The Department offers Under-Graduation [UG], Post-Graduation [PG] and Research under VTU. PG programme, M. Tech in Computer Science and Engineering was established in the year 2008.
The Department has been accredited to NBA Washington Accord for 3 years. It has excellent infrastructure facilities with six labs, such as Algorithm & Data Structures, Database & Networking Labs, Web Technologies, System Software & Operating System Lab and The Microprocessor Lab, to prepare the techno savvy’s to conquer the demands of the IT industry, R&D organizations and computer related areas. The objective is to educate, train and develop world class research and IT professionals with a mastery of not only hardware and software skills but also soft skills for professional success that helps 95% of the Computer Science students to get placed in top software companies like JP Morgan, Akamai, Accenture, Robert Bosch, IGate etc. Most of the students are offered higher pay packages from software giants like Linkedin, Adobe, Netapp, Cisco, Oracle etc.
The Department offers an excellent academic environment with a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculties with most of the staff’s having doctoral degrees. Many other staff members are currently involved in doing their research work and are involved in taking care of several software projects. The department of Computer Science and Engineering constantly organizes seminars and other interactive programs to keep the student community updated about the latest happening in the IT-sector.
The Department is currently headed by Dr. Asha .T B.E., M.E., Ph.D
Dr. Asha .T B.E., M.E., Ph.D

POST GRADUATION
Department of Computer Science and Engineering started PG Program in the year 2008 with intake of 18 students headed by Dr. Shivanand Handigundi. The program is approved by AICTE and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technology University (VTU), Karnataka. Currently headed by Dr. D G Jyothi.
Dr. D. G. Jyothi
PG and R&D Coordinator
The M.Tech Programme is of four semester (two years) duration. During this tenure, students acquire in depth knowledge in various fields of Computer Science Engineering like Internet of Things, Big Data, Data Mining, Computer Networks, Storage systems, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Block Chain technology, Data science and other courses. Students are provided with infrastructure and faculty support. The PG programme is supported with experienced and highly dedicated faculty members to train students. Department organizes Technical talks from industry experts and Alumni’s, arrange Industrial visits and Industry oriented workshops. In Third semester student will carry out internship in reputed IT companies like DELL, Nokia, Unisys, Nvest Global Enterprises, DRDO DEBEL, Inventeron Technologies and Business LLP, etc.
PG students will be able to use up-to-date learning resources including a well-stocked library with traditional and electronic media, general purpose network computing facilities and independent laboratory. IOT related projects are carried out by PG students in the full-fledged IOT lab. The Department has Research and Development Centre to carry out Research works to acquire Ph.D. degree.
Nearly 90% of PG students are placed in various companies through campus placement. Students are taught how to use peer reviewed journal papers for presenting papers and doing innovative projects. All students do publish/present papers in reputed peer reviewed journals/conferences as part of the academic requirement.
