“e-Yantra Robotics Competition (eYRC) 2019-2020”

Congratulations to our college e-Yantra Robotics Team for winning Consolation Prize in this year’s e-Yantra Robotics Competition (eYRC).

    Team Members:
  1. 1. Aditya Kumar (ECE)
  2. 2. Arvind Patidar (ECE)
  • e-Yantra is a project sponsored by MHRD through the National Mission on Education through ICT (NMEICT).
  • It is an initiative by IIT Bombay that aims to create the next generation of embedded systems engineers with a practical outlook to help provide practical solutions to some of the real world problems.

Aboute-Yantra Robotics Competition

e-Yantra Robotics Competition (eYRC) is a unique annual competition launched in the month of August every year for undergraduate students in engineering colleges. Selected teams are given a robotic kit complete with accessories and video tutorials to help them learn basic concepts in embedded systems and microcontroller programming. Abstracts of real world problems assigned as "themes" are then implemented by the teams using the robotic kits. The winners of this competition will be eligible for summer internship at IIT Bombay through e-Yantra Summer Internship Program.

The competition is conducted completely online over a period of 4-5 months. During this period Teams work on Tasks – each Task being a step in the learning/problem-solving process. Based on the performance in the Tasks, teams are selected for further stages of the competition/Finals of the competition. Through this competition, students are not only learning and exploring technologies but also developing skills to analyze a problem, finding alternate solutions and presenting an appropriate solution to the problem - skills essential in any entrepreneurial endeavour.

About the Theme Rapid Rescuer (RR)

Rescue operations pose a grave danger to victim as well as to those assigned the job of saving the lives of victims. Rescuing people in case of fire and explosion in any cityscape comprising numerous buildings (these may be including residential, commercial, industrial, petroleum/chemical distribution, maritime, construction, and agricultural buildings etc) is a risky and crucial operation.

Robots can be used in such applications to save lives of people and also provide crucial information that can further be used by experts for decision making. The purpose of Rapid Rescuer is to rescue victims from dangerous or unpleasant situations to safer locations.

The arena for the theme is an abstraction of a city in the form of a maze. An image of a maze will be given to teams and using Image Processing, teams have to find the shortest path from start node to final node. This information will be communicated to the Bot. The goal is to traverse the shortest path and evacuate people from different locations to a safe place whilst avoiding unknown obstacles.

Technical Activities

Name of the event:IEEE CAS BIT Student Branch Embedded System Workshop
Date:20th and 21st May 2022
Participants attended:46
Speaker Name:Vijaya Mahtesh, Cleverbit, Bangalore

  • The Embedded System Workshop was conducted on 20th and 21st of may from 10 am to 4:30 pm. The venue provided for the workshop was the VLSI Lab, BIT.
  • The training was provided by Mr. Vijay Mahantesh from Cleverbit Solutions PVT LTD which included the insight on the processors such as Arduino along with the live demonstration by providing kits.
  • The event started in presence of the Principal Dr. MU Aswath and HOD of the ECE Dept. Dr. Hemanth Kumar A R and the counsellor for IEEE BIT Student Branch Dr. Jalaja S and the speaker for the workshop Mr. Vijay Mahantesh by lighting the candle.
  • The workshop mainly focused on the 2nd and 3rd years where we learnt about the basics of Arduino along with the sensors and Embedded C required to code the Arduino.
  • The workshop was held for 2 days that is the 20th and the 21st where on the first day we were taught the basics of Arduino and how to code it according to our need. We were taught how to use the IR sensor that detects the motion of a heat emitting body around its range .We were also made to use an LDR that helps in detecting light intensity.
  • The second day, we were taught how to use an ultrasonic sensor which detects the distance the body is kept at from the mounting point and also the use of LCD display which can be used as a display device to monitor various values. There were a lot of parameters that they had included to teach us and as well were giving various tasks complete.
  • We also had a great insight on various domains and ways to get into Embedded Systems through one to one talks with Vijay Mahantesh sir.
  • The event was graced by the presence of

Principal of BIT - Dr. Aswath M U
HOD, Dept. Of ECE - Dr. Hemanth Kumar A R
Counsellor, IEEE BIT Student Branch - Dr. Jalaja S
Co-Ordinator, IEEE BIT Student Branch - Dr. Vijay Prakash A M
