  • ABOUT DEPARTMENT:

    The department of engineering chemistry came into existence along with the establishment of the institution in the year 1979. The department is currently headed by Dr. Chandrashekara. B.M, and assisted by a team of well qualified and dedicated staff members. The department has a staff of 3 associate professors, 6 assistant professors having more than 5 years of experience with excellence in teaching and research. 5 faculty members are holding Ph.D degree, 4 faculty members are pursuing Ph.D in different domains and 4 non–teaching staffs for assisting in engineering chemistry lab and other activities. The department has more than 100 publications and 02 Indian patents in its credit. The department has conducted national conferences, workshops and seminars on advanced materials. The department is involved in teaching Engineering Chemistry theory and Engineering Chemistry laboratory for first year BE students of all disciplines. The results in both theory and practical examinations have been consistently good. Engineering chemistry laboratory has all required facilities including equipment’s such as distillation plant, pH meter, potentiometer, conductivity meter, colorimeter, hot-air oven.

    RESEARCH and DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES : The department has a well-established research centre affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University. Centre has good infrastructure and successfully completed more than 10 research projects with the help of various funding agencies such as DST, DAE, SERB, UGC and VTU, with more than 100 publications in peer reviewed, reputed international journals, 5 book chapters and 02 Indian patents to its credit. 10 Ph.D scholars acquired degree and four more are pursuing their research and one student submitted the thesis in the field of clay catalysis at the centre. Major research areas include heterogeneous catalysis, adsorption and nano materials. The facilities in the centre are utilized by PG students and UG students of various disciplines.
